About The Mill Stream Association

The Mill Stream AssociaBrook Trouttion was created in 1997 when a group of local citizens became concerned about a land development issue that could have impacted the water quality of the Mill Stream, a small spring creek that arises out of the limestone bluffs overlooking the village of Marine on St Croix and that flows through town before joining the St Croix River. The Mill Stream is special because it is home to a naturally reproducing strain of native brook trout.

This grass roots group organized “The Mill Stream Association” as a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation. Its primary goal is to be the guardian of the “Mill Stream,” protecting it and its brook trout against any potential hazard caused by water quality degradation, public use issues and/or development. They had the foresight to recognize what a unique resource the Mill Stream is and sought to spread the word through community outreach and education.

Since its initial inception, The Mill Stream Association has expanded its community outreach and education efforts to encompass much broader concerns of water quality in and around the St Croix River watershed. In order to reach our constituents we have embarked on an education program in local elementary schools, called “Watershed Wisdom,” were grade school age children get the opportunity to grasp the Clean Water Message through hands on experience. We hold an annual town picnic and we sponsor several community programs each year, all with the theme of water quality and environmental conservation.
